Gender, Gender Identity/Expression (cisgenderism & sexism)

https://destinationtomorrow.org/who-we-are

https://www.thetrevorproject.org/

https://genderequalityny.org/community/

In our work toward creating more inclusive and supportive space, it's essential to recognize the importance of gender and gender identity/expression. Gender is not a binary or fixed concept; it's a spectrum, and everyone has the right to define and express their own gender. Unfortunately, society has often reinforced harmful norms through cisgenderism-the assumption that everyone is cisgender or aligns with the gender they were assigned at birth. This creates a space where trans non-binary, and gender-nonconforming individuals are marginalized or excluded. Additionally, sexism remains persuasive, reinforcing inequalities based on gender and limiting the full potential of individuals of all genders. To create an environment that is truly inclusive, we must actively challenge these norms, validate all gender identities, and respect each person's expression of self. It is critical to listen to and support those whose experiences with gender differ from the mainstream, recognizing their lived realities and advocating for their right to exist authentically. Inclusivity means fostering a space where everyone-regardless of gender identity-feels seen, heard, and valued.
